NICOSIA The inflation in Cyprus recorded a slight decline, to 3.1%, on an annual basis, in April 2012, compared to the previous month, according to data released on Thursday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.
For the period January-April 2012, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), and therefore the rate of inflation, recorded an increase of 3.2% compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
The Consumer Price Index for April 2012 increased by 1.05 units or 0.88% to 120.05 units compared to 119.00 in March 2012. This is mainly due to increases in the prices of certain clothing and footwear items, electricity and petroleum products. Decreases have been recorded in the prices of certain fresh vegetables and fresh lamb.
In March 2012, the inflation increased to 3.4%, on an annual basis, while in April 2011 the inflation had increased to 3.3%.
