NICOSIA Bird activists claim the biggest victory so far in illegal trappings and killings that have sullied the island’s name internationally.
Friends of the Earth and Committee Against Bird Slaughter will reveal today the impressive results of their bird protection camp.
“Organisers will announce the most successful large scale operation in the history of Cyprus,” FoE campaign co-ordination Klitos Papastylianou told The Cyprus Weekly yesterday.
During the camp more than 3,500 limesticks were located.
A record 1.4 million migratory birds were illegally trapped and killed in autumn 2010 to feed an illicit Cypriot taste for such delicacies.>10
