 NICOSIA Free examinations for skin cancer will be carried out by specialists as part of an annual European campaign.
Euromelanoma 2012 received its Cyprus launch at yesterday to increase public awareness about malignant melanoma, the importance of early diagnosis and ways of preventing it.
Events will be staged tomorrow at Nicosia’s Mall of Cyprus and at MyMall in Limassol.
The president of the Cyprus Dermatology and Venereology Society, Andreas Pallouras, said a significant increase in new cases of melanoma had been recorded in Cyprus in recent years.
Over-exposure to sunlight is a prime cause of melanoma.
Euromelanoma 2012 is taking place under the auspices of the Cyprus Dermatology and Venereology Society and the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology.
Dermatologists across Cyprus will carry out free skin cancer tests by appointment.
