Eurasian mastery from the king of summer style
Paris Christophides needs no introduction to the 35+ crowd. Younger people, however, may not be as familiar with the name, even though his back story is well known all across the island. You see, all his new ideas in the summer venue business have made him all the more popular, and none more so than the recent Guru in Ayia Napa and Love Bites, two of the most charming holiday spots on the island. In fact, the popularity of Guru was so great, that Christophides has branched out with two new Guru venues, one in Limassol and one in Protaras. We chose to give the latter a go.
I headed off to the Capo Bay Hotel, where the Guru Day Spa & Lifestyle Bar is located, photographer in tow. Now I’m sure your first question – as was mine – is what a day spa has to do with a lifestyle bar? Well, I asked Paris himself to explain this concept. For one thing, the décor was all his idea, brought to life by interior designer Maria Neophytou, who combined the Cycladic white harmoniously with ethnic elements and tropical touches, creating the perfect atmosphere for enjoying a relaxing massage. For though Guru brings you the mesmerising blue of the Protaras sea at your feet, its delicious offerings go way beyond the kitchen! For starters, you can practice yoga or enjoy a head or foot massage from trained professionals. Then sip one of Hayley’s yummy cocktails before setting down to a scrumptious Mediterranean meal with Eurasian touches, created by Paris himself and masterfully whipped up by talented chef Nick Wiszniewski. Start off with the Imam Baidi and yogurt, and carry on with the heavenly black cod with shiro miso and soy sauce. The Thai green curry with chicken, but also the caramelised scallops with sweet potato and pickled limes are also don’t-miss items on the menu, but do make sure you leave some room for dessert, for you will certainly not be able to resist the mandarin crème brulee and lemongrass pannacotta with exotic fruits.
Why should I go?
To enjoy the sea amidst a relaxing environment whilst enjoying a drink or a meal.
What should I wear?
Anything comfy; you’re on holiday after all.
What should I try?
Without a doubt, the black cod with shiro miso and soy sauce and Thai green curry with chicken come highly recommended.
