LIMASSOL – Both AEL and Omonia secured their passage into the final of the Cyprus Coca-Cola Cup on Wednesday night despite failing to win their second leg semifinals against AEK and Ethnikos Achnas respectively.
Pambos Christodoulou’s side – who are also in line swoop up the domestic league title for the first time in 44 years – did enough in the first leg in Larnaca as their win 1-0 aggregate lead remained unchanged with Wednesday’s night’s encounter ending goal-less.
Cup holders Omonia had won their first leg 3-0 and Neophytos Larkou’s could afford the luxury of going down 1-0 at the Dasaki Stadium after Wender’s first half penalty.
The game will not hold fond memories for either side. Ethnikos were left fuming with some of the decisions of match official Charalambos Skapoullis while there was also a surprisingly low turn-out of supporters for the game.
